I bought 2 of the Sleepypod Clickit Harness for dogs in size Large in 2015. One was in the color Robin’s egg (Teal) and the other one was red. The Teal color one was for my rescue German Shepherd Dog Sophie. Sophie used it for maybe 3 years at most and was diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy, which is the canine version of Lou Gehrig’s disease. I needed a stronger harness so I could lift her in and out of the car and she passed away in 2021. The red one was for my rescue German Sherpherd and Husky mix. He was 2 years old at the time, and somehow when he was about 4 or 5 years old, he would not let me lift his right paw, which makes it impossible to put this harness on. So the red one was used maybe 3 years at best.
Selene was born in 2017 and she started using the teal color one when she was filled out around 2 to be able to wear this size, in 2019. The teal color one broke in 2025, with about 6 years of use. So together it was maybe 9 years of use, but still did not last the natural life of a big dog.
I reached out to Sleepypod and they said yeah, it is old, even though I provided a receipt. The straps were just of a poor quality and when I really had to brake hard in some situations, and the seatbelt holds back, that is what I think created the “almost” tear on the straps. I would think the right thing to do is to offer me a new one maybe at a discount or even half the cost for good will. But no offer. It was disappointed since I have recommended their product to countless friends. (If you read my blog, my dogs are competition dogs, we are at dog shows all the time.)
So last year, I took the red one out and have Selene start using it. Well a year later, same thing the straps is almost torn. It looks like it cannot take the impact when pull back from the seat belt. So this red one had not even been used a total of 4 years and I really think it is very unacceptable. I was going to do the review last year, because I searched for other review out there and found none. But dog competitions kept me busy until this red one fell apart. I am more than pissed. I searched high and low and I refused to buy another Sleepypod harness.
Other than the harness not lasting the life of the dog, the adjustment straps does not stay put, I have to adjust the straps just about every time, because the seat belt pull on the loops and the buckles are not strong enough to hold them.

I was able to find one which is also crash tested, a lot more sturdier, and once the straps are adjusted the buckles hold the size and the size stay put. So Sleepypod claims that they are the only harness that is crash tested, it is not true. The other brand is not as well known but available on Amazon. If you order from the directly, you will save on sales tax. The price is about the same as the Sleepypod, and it only comes in black. (If you contact me I can tell you the product but I do not do free advertising, sorry). The goal of this review is to inform people that there are other crash tested options on dog harnesses out there, and Sleepypod just does not hold up.
